TESTING
How do I test it?
It is not necessary to arm your tattletale to perform this test. To avoid alarm events, leave your tattletale disarmed.
-
Place into Walk Test. Using the supplied magnet, place over the arrow on the left side of the sensor. (Walk Test mode lasts one minute.)
-
A red LED light will emit from the sensor when in Walk Test.
-
Place the sensor in the desired location and walk in from of the sensor. The red LED on the sensor will emit when the sensor is tripped.
-
The Open Sensor Icon will display on the tattletale home screen when the sensor is tripped. See photo.
MOUNTING
Where should it be positioned?
The sensor should be placed 6'-8' high.
Place the sensor so that an intruder will cross the sensor’s field of view.
Avoid mounting in areas where there are air ducts or metal walls.
This sensor is intended to be used in a closed, indoor environment.
Which side is up and which side is down?
The end with the tattletale logo should be toward the top; the square lens should be on the bottom.
See photo.
Frequently Asked Questions
MORE
I am waving my hand in front of the Motion Detector. Why isn't it responding?
It is likely in sleep mode. The sensor needs to not see anything for at least 5 minutes before it "wakes up" and will transmit new signals.
When not in Walk Test Mode, the red LED will not illuminate when the sensor is tripped.
What is the battery life?
The average battery life is 2-3 years.
If the sensor is in a high-activity area, the battery life will be greatly reduced.
What kind of range does it have / how far does it see?
The Indoor Motion Detector can see up to 40', and it can be used up to 300' away from the base unit.
Will the Indoor Motion Detector see through glass?
No, it is not designed to see through glass.
Can sunlight trip the motion sensor?
Yes. However unlikely, this sensor can be tripped if light is directed straight into the eye of the motion detector and the sensor also detects motion.
What is Sleep Mode?
Sleep Mode is a battery-saving feature. Without Sleep Mode, you would need to replace batteries on a frequent basis, rather than every 2-3 years. This is industry standard for battery-operated motion detectors.
When the sensor sees motion, it will immediately report to the base unit and then enter sleep mode. Because the alarm signal has already been sent to the base unit, when in sleep mode, the motion sensor will not report again until at least 3-5 minutes of no activity have passed.
What will set off the motion detection of this sensor?
Any combination of movement and heat will set off the motion detector.
